Shivering with Antici...pation | 2023 Brooklyn Horror Film Festival
My talk with writer and fellow horror-fanatic Bash Ortega on the 2023 Brooklyn Horror lineup. BHFF runs from October 12-19, 2023.
The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival starts TONIGHT, October 12, 2023, and runs until October 19. Badges for the festival are entirely sold out, but you can still grab individual tickets on their website.
I discussed the films I’m most excited to see with my dear friend Bash Ortega, a writer and artist based in New York City. You can find the full interview on Bash’s website.
Viewer Beware: our conversation includes slight spoilers on Talk To Me and The Exorcist: Believer.
As I said in the interview, I am most excited to see queer revenge horror Femme, puberty body horror Tiger Stripes, and the (hopefully) fucked up camping nightmare Wilder Than Her. Marginalized genders, Queer, and BIPOC movies to the front, please!
I could talk about horror with Bash all day, and we almost did! The original transcript of our conversation was thirty-three pages. We talked about old and new horror movies that we loved or thought were just OK. We chatted more about the horrors of puberty and how I think education/children’s rights are related to my favorite film genre. Our Exorcist chat unearthed some interesting family lore, and I also talked about how my late mother’s passion for horror fueled my own.
None of that made the final version, but rest assured that you will read about all the fucked up movies my mother introduced to me soon. Keep one eye on the Void at all times.
Will you be at BHFF? You better be! Let me know who and what you see!
